Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) is now more user-friendly and technologically advanced than ever before. The upgraded AWOS platform provides complete ICAO compliance while delivering timely weather assessments with the accuracy the industry has learned to expect from Schneider Electric.

Additional enhancements include:

  • The availability of a web-based interface and modifiable “run time” that relieve the need for customer provided software programming support.
  • A software centric aviation weather data management solution, MetConsole 3 AWOS is sensor independent, meaning it is fully compatible with any manufacturer’s sensors, and thus a cost-effective solution.
  • Platform is designed to enable customization to meet specific customer requirements.

Benefits

This automated system updates current weather conditions, including temperature, visibility (RVR), precipitation, wind direction and speed, dew point, barometric pressure, and other parameters. Dual redundancy enables nearly 100 per cent availability without manual involvement.

  • It meets all International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) requirements and recommendations
  • Continuous data monitoring can detect faults, and a semi-automatic mode enables manual addition of observations before message transmission
  • Its open architecture accommodates the best sensors available on the market, from all leading manufacturers
  • Scalability assures users can extend the number and type of sensors as requirements grow
  • TCP/IP networking allows an unlimited number of workstations for met office staff and air traffic control and maintenance engineers
